At ACA, community engagement is a fundamental value, and Co Director Alex Caruso recently demonstrated this by volunteering with Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University, which ACA proudly sponsors.
Alex spent the day with a group of enthusiastic Year 4 students from Thorpepark Primary School, taking part in an enriching "Trawling from Hull" experience. The children had a blast asking the public about Hull’s trawling history, with one group particularly impressed when a man answered all their questions correctly—until they learned he was a history teacher!
Throughout the day, the students used computers in the KCOM Learning Zone to conduct research, concluding with a tour of Hull’s trawling monuments. They were captivated by the fascinating maritime history of their hometown, and for many, it was their first visit to the city centre.
Reflecting on the day, Alessandro shared:
“It was a privilege to spend time with such curious and eager young learners from Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University. Hull has a rich maritime heritage, and it’s great to see the children engaging with this part of their city’s identity in such an interactive way. I hope it inspires them to dream big and consider the many opportunities ahead.”
In the previous year, students from Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University visited ACA’s office to explore architecture and interior design and will be returning soon!
