Since January 2021, members of the Business Culture Hull have experienced a new way of networking, something that the members themselves shaped and named.
Founding partner of The Business Culture Hull, Tony Bowler explains: “We have always promoted ourselves as being a business club rather than a networking organisation. We believe passionately in helping local companies do business through creating a culture of collaboration and mutual support rather than having a carrot and stick mentality.
“Many of our members also belong to networking organisations and we were constantly hearing about the things they didn’t like. We could see there was a need for a different type of networking, but we wanted to rip up the rule book and start with a blank sheet of paper. We surveyed our members and together we devised the three groups.
“Members gave us a list of 12 things they liked and 50 things they disliked with what is currently on offer elsewhere. They also had a wish list of around 30 other ideas that we considered. We put everything together into a comprehensive survey and asked members to vote on each recommendation.
“What we have created is a new and improved approach to networking. We have three groups, each with 25 members representing a single industry sector. Our ethos is still culture rather than rules. Members voted against a points system or pressure to pass business referrals. Instead, we will refer business based on trust, respect, and a desire to help each other succeed. There will be plenty of time for networking and a regular personal development section at the meetings.”
All groups were established virtually during the lockdowns, but now meet face to face every month as well as have an online meeting.
