Alessandro Caruso Architects (ACA) is supporting Tigers Trust with proposals to redevelop its West Park facilities into a £2 million community sports campus, bringing together sport, education and wellbeing in the heart of the city.
The proposed investment aims to revitalise existing facilities and establish a more accessible, welcoming environment for local residents, schools, sports clubs and community organisations.
Working alongside Tigers Trust, ACA is helping to develop a vision that combines improved sporting infrastructure with new opportunities for learning, personal development and community participation.
The redevelopment proposals focus on making better use of the existing West Park site while expanding the range of activities and services available to the community.
Planned improvements include:
Reinstating outdoor pitches to encourage greater participation in grassroots and recreational sport.
Expanding the current arena to accommodate enhanced sporting and community activities.
Introducing dedicated spaces for education, training and community programmes.
Creating further opportunities for girls and young women to become involved in football.
Improving access to activities that support healthier, more active lifestyles.
The overall ambition is to create a multi-purpose destination that can respond to the changing needs of Hull's communities and provide benefits for years to come.
The significance of the proposed campus extends beyond the development of sports facilities.
Community spaces of this kind can make an important contribution to improving physical and mental wellbeing, reducing social isolation and encouraging people from different backgrounds to participate in shared activities.
By combining sporting opportunities with educational and community programmes, Tigers Trust hopes to establish an environment where people of different ages and abilities can develop skills, build confidence and make meaningful connections.
The proposals also place importance on increasing female participation in football, supporting the continued development of opportunities for women and girls in the sport.
For ACA the project represents an opportunity to apply its expertise in community, healthcare and educational design to a development close to home.
Based in Hull and the East Riding, ACA has worked on a wide range of projects where accessibility, wellbeing and the needs of local communities are central to the design process.
ACA's approach to the proposed campus reflects the belief that thoughtfully designed environments can encourage participation, strengthen social connections and help organisations achieve their long-term objectives.
The practice is particularly pleased to be contributing to a project that could make a tangible difference to its local area.
With proposals now publicly announced, the Tigers Trust Community Sports Campus marks a positive step towards improving sporting and community provision at West Park.
Subject to the plans progressing, the £2 million scheme could provide an important new resource for Hull, supporting grassroots sport, educational activities and wider community wellbeing.
ACA looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Tigers Trust and the wider project team as the proposals develop.
