Continuous learning and professional development are an important part of Alessandro Caruso Architect's (ACA) commitment to both design excellence and business improvement. As part of this approach, ACA Co-Directors Amelia and Alex recently attended From Kennels to KPIs, a Humber Business Week event led by Fred Owen at the Animal Rehabilitation Centre in Hull.
The session explored the relationship between organisational culture, brand identity, vision and strategic performance, highlighting how these elements can work together to support sustainable growth. Through practical examples and real-world experience, attendees were encouraged to consider how small, consistent improvements can contribute to meaningful long-term progress.
For ACA, many of the themes discussed resonated strongly with the challenges and opportunities faced by modern architectural practices. Topics such as leadership, organisational development, performance measurement and maintaining alignment between values and objectives provided valuable insight into how businesses can continue to evolve while remaining true to their purpose.
The event also offered an opportunity to reflect on the importance of culture within an organisation. Whether designing buildings or leading a business, creating a clear vision and fostering a positive environment can play a significant role in achieving successful outcomes.
Following the presentation, Amelia and Alex joined fellow attendees for a tour of the Animal Rehabilitation Centre, gaining a deeper understanding of the work carried out by the RSPCA Hull & East Riding Branch. The visit showcased the dedication of the team and the facilities that support animal welfare across the region, while also providing a memorable and enjoyable end to the event.
As long-standing supporters of the organisation, ACA was pleased to attend the session and hear first-hand about the leadership principles that continue to drive its success. The experience reinforced the value of collaboration, continuous improvement and community engagement, principles that remain central to ACA's approach as the practice continues to grow and develop.
