Rebecca Latus is relishing the opportunity that joining fast-expanding firm James Legal represents.
The experienced commercial litigator will further enhance the specialist business-related legal advice offered by James Legal, which has offices in east Hull and Beverley.
Rebecca can advise on everything from contract disputes to negligence issues, shareholder and partnership disputes, financial mis-selling and guarantee liability.
Having qualified as a lawyer in 2006, she has previously worked for firms including DLA Piper in Sheffield and Rollitts in Hull, where she was an associate. She has extensive experience of handling complex, ‘multi-track’ cases.
Asked what motivates her, she said: “I enjoy a good argument and I’m quite competitive and like to win!”
You wouldn’t think so if you meet her though because, like all of the James Legal team, she has a very approachable, likeable personality.
She explained: I also really enjoy building close relationships with clients and working out how we can solve a particular problem together. Getting to know them in this way is always important for good lawyers, but particularly so when it comes to fighting someone’s corner and trying to achieve a practical and amicable outcome for them wherever possible.”
A strong track record
Rebecca’s previous successes have included a high profile hire dispute case that was heard at the Court of Appeal.
And, just like James Legal, she believes in ‘giving something back’, acting as a trustee for the Hull Youth Support Trust outside of work.
“The charity is focused on young enterprise and is aimed at supporting start-ups from the area,” added Rebecca.
“I think it’s important to give something back and help people succeed in an area that hasn’t always been particularly enterprising.”
So, why has Rebecca chosen to join James Legal?
“I’ve reached the point in my career where I’m ready for a new challenge,” she said.
“It’s great to have an opportunity to join a firm that is so committed to taking a fresh approach to law and really helping people through advice that is genuinely aimed at making their situation better.
“I’m excited about the variety of work I’ll be doing, and the opportunities for the future as James Legal continues to expand.”
Outside of work, Rebecca is a staunch rugby league fan (though she’s not revealing which team!) and really enjoys cooking, baking, yoga and spending time with family and friends. She lives in Elloughton near Brough with her husband Grant and their one-year-old son.
