Cobus recently celebrated winning the Business in the Community award at the Hull Daily Mail’s Heart of East Yorkshire Awards which celebrated the people and organisations in our community who have achieved something special, who inspire, persevere, and stand out and we are proud to have received a nomination for Business in the community.
In 2010 The Cobus Communications Group’s MD, Michael Smith, decided to set-up a specific division to help support local charities, community initiatives, and general good causes – this was named The Cobus Foundation. When asked his reasons for doing so Michael responded “The business is now 27-years old and after many years of helping others and making irregular donations to various local causes I wanted to do more, concentrate efforts, and utilise the company’s brand and position to maximise overall effectiveness. The Foundation allows a more structured and organised approach that provides greater benefits to the local charities and community projects involved. Since the launch of the Foundation in 2010 Cobus staff have really engaged with the projects across all levels – from the more physical events such as marathons and ‘total warrior’ to helping as mentors, providing business acumen or maybe just by baking a cake!” From the early stages it was quickly recognised that its not just about the money raised/donated – it’s often found that support is required and welcomed in many other ways such as helping to create positive awareness and helping a charity/community initiative with a structured support mechanism to help promote stability and longevity so that the support provided is sustainable long after the initial fundraising has completed!
The glittering event was held at the KCOM Stadium and Managing Director Michael Smith said “It was humbling to be recognised for ‘doing our bit’ while sharing the room with so many local heroes! ”
