A competitive cycling legacy is being kept alive by Pam Wainman from Hull based printing firm, Jadan Press who sponsors Team Jadan-Weldtite presented by Vive Le Velo, a successful ladies’ cycling team that rode in the Women’s Circuit Race in Beverley.

Ms Wainman, a lover of sport, supports women’s racing as a testament to her late mother’s own cycling prowess. She says:

“As a business we support many teams but the one closest to my heart is our namesake squad, Team Jadan. My mother was an accomplished cyclist, with a string of sporting accolades to her name. Sadly she passed away in 2012, and it was a strange coincidence when shortly after we were approached by Victoria Hood who runs the team. I knew it would be something my mum would want us to do and so jumped at the chance to help them and as the main sponsor, we were delighted to have the team named after us.”

“Team Jadan is an elite set of very fit young women who travel the country competing in a variety of races. We work together to promote women’s cycling, which used to come second fiddle to men’s racing, but I am pleased to say it is getting more TV coverage and support from cycling enthusiasts.”

“Cycling has become more popular in our region since The Tour de Yorkshire. It’s a high velocity sport and the risks are huge when travelling on a thin piece of metal at break-neck speeds, this is why I love it so much, it’s thrilling to watch.”

Victoria Hood, Manager of Team Jadan has just won two National Masters Track Championships. She says:

“Team Jadan established the first Yorkshire Women’s Road Race Series four years ago and at the same time took part in the East Yorkshire Classic, there had never been a women’s race, it was men only in Beverley.”

“Now we are the UK’s only full development team which sees girls coming up from youth level right through to senior ranks, giving all the opportunities to develop their skills and most of our original youth riders now represent the country and ride for Great Britain, on the Olympic pathway.”

“Road racing is such a hard sport and you have to be at a really good level before you can consider competing. Up until a few years ago, beginners had to join the elite racers, there were no other categories to enter which meant that many women dropped out as the completion was too tough. For my first road race, I hadn’t even got my feet clipped into the pedals and the whole field were gone. I did keep racing though and it’s thanks to funding from our sponsors that we are able to support our girls.”

“Support from Pam Wainman and our other sponsors, Weldtite and Vive le Velo, gives us funding to take the girls away to races and provide a supportive environment to help them thrive.”

Jadan Press also sponsors other sports including Hull City, Hull FC and can always be found on the terraces supporting her beloved teams with friends and family.
