Be honest. Some of us are already quietly counting down to the summer holidays. The long evenings, a bit of actual sunshine (we live in hope), a proper break from the inbox. The only part nobody's counting down to is six weeks of working out what on earth to do with the kids.<\/p>\n
And while we're all dreaming of a deckchair, here's a thought that's never too early to have: what happens to the business while you're off?<\/p>\n
The summer lull isn't what most people think it is. Used well, the quiet weeks can do more for you than the busy ones.<\/p>\n

Plenty of us see things go quiet between June and August. Fewer enquiries, slower phones, decisions pushed to \"after the holidays\". That bit's true.<\/p>\n
But it's footfall and spending that dip, not searching, and not deciding. People don't stop needing a roofer because the schools have broken up. They've just got time on their hands for the first time all year, and they tend to use it to research properly: reading the whole site, comparing two or three firms, finally getting round to the thing they've been meaning to sort for months.<\/p>\n

Up, not down.<\/strong> Office for National Statistics figures show UK retail sales volumes actually rose in both July and August 2025. The high street didn't empty out, it shopped differently.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The field clears.<\/strong> When everyone else mentally clocks off, there's less competition for attention, and the people still looking tend to be the ones who mean it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Figures correct as of summer 2025. Give me a shout if you spot anything that's moved on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Here's where the \"everyone's away\" story falls apart locally. Come the first Saturday in August, the Marina's heaving for Humber Street Sesh, town's busy, and there are visitors in for the weekend. Freedom Festival follows not long after. The footfall doesn't vanish over summer. It moves, out of the weekday routine and into the bright Saturday, the day out, the phone in someone's hand with ten minutes to look you up.<\/p>\n Which is rather the point. If summer changes where people are and what they're doing, the question is whether they can find you, and get what they need, when they do.<\/p>\n A handful of small things, none of which need a big project or a spare weekend. It's about the business quietly looking after itself while you actually get a break.
