{"id":21288,"date":"2025-02-13T13:52:31","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T13:52:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebusinessculture.co.uk\/hey\/?post_type=good-news&#038;p=21288"},"modified":"2025-02-13T14:00:57","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T14:00:57","slug":"st-pauls-boxing-academy-launches-friends-of-st-pauls-to-support-young-people-in-hull","status":"publish","type":"good-news","link":"https:\/\/thebusinessculture.co.uk\/hey\/good-news\/st-pauls-boxing-academy-launches-friends-of-st-pauls-to-support-young-people-in-hull\/","title":{"rendered":"St Paul\u2019s Boxing Academy Launches Friends of St Paul\u2019s to Support Young People in Hull"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thebusinessculture.co.uk\/hey\/events\/%f0%9f%a5%8afriends-of-st-pauls-launch-event-%f0%9f%a5%8a\/\">St Paul\u2019s Boxing Academy is launching<\/a> an exciting new initiative to strengthen its work with young people across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Friends of St Paul\u2019s scheme invites small businesses to directly support the academy\u2019s mission to change lives through sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As East Yorkshire\u2019s largest and most successful boxing club, St Paul\u2019s has been a cornerstone of the community for decades, offering young people discipline, confidence, and a positive outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Darren Peacock is one of the trustees of St Paul\u2019s and is also director of Westwood Capital Finance in Beverley. He said: \u201cThis new initiative will ensure St Paul\u2019s continues its vital work, providing access to top-class training, mentorship, and opportunities for young boxers, regardless of background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe local business community has been so supportive of St Paul\u2019s in many ways, especially through the recent \u00a31m refurbishment and securing the lease on the building for the next 25 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBy being a Friend of St Paul\u2019s, small businesses will make a difference - in a very real and tangible way. Their contributions will enable us to do more for members and provide more opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSt Paul\u2019s isn\u2019t just about boxing - it\u2019s about building futures and bringing people together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">St Paul\u2019s head coach Mike Bromby MBE said: \u201cWhenever a business or individual contributes to the St Paul\u2019s family, it means the absolute world to the young people here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA lot of what we do is about self-belief, and getting our young people to believe in themselves more. So when a business contributes to St Paul\u2019s, they are showing that they believe in them as well \u2013 and that\u2019s really powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David Garness, head of St Paul\u2019s trustees and group managing director of Garness Jones, said: \u201cSt Paul\u2019s shows members the benefits of discipline, determination, being present, being focussed \u2013 all of those are key qualities for success in any part of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose are also qualities we need in the local business eco-system, whether that\u2019s in a member of staff, a manager, or entrepreneurs. So by becoming a Friend of St Paul\u2019s, you\u2019re not only supporting young people, you\u2019re also investing in the local business community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local businesses that join the scheme will be recognised as official supporters of St Paul\u2019s Boxing Academy and will receive a certificate and St Paul\u2019s goodie-bag as well regular updates and invites to events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any business or individual interested in joining the Friends of St Pauls are invited to a special event at the gym in North Church Side, Hull, on Wednesday, February 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 6.30pm to 8pm, when they can find out more about the work of St Paul\u2019s, mix with like-minded business people, and enjoy some free food and drink. To reserve your spot, register at <a href=\"https:\/\/thebusinessculture.co.uk\/hey\/events\/%f0%9f%a5%8afriends-of-st-pauls-launch-event-%f0%9f%a5%8a\/\">Friends of St Paul Launch<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Founding friends and event organisers Tony and Michelle Bowler said: \u201cWe\u2019ve had a lot of interest in the event already so we are encouraging anyone interested in finding out more to register for the event as soon as they can.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since being established in 1948, St Paul\u2019s has trained hundreds of champions as well as launched the careers of world-class fighters including 2012 Olympic Gold Medallist Luke Campbell, and former Commonwealth lightweight champion, Tommy Coyle.
